I was watching Pitch Perfect the other night and Skylar Astin’s character, Jesse, was bragging to Anna Kendrick’s character, Beca, about movies with great soundtracks and he mentioned The Breakfast Club. The song, “Don’t You Forget About Me” by Simple Minds, is awesome, and I love the part in that movie when Judd Nelson triumphantly thrusts his fist up into the air as the credits began to roll. This same song was “mashed up” with another song in Pitch Perfect and was performed by Beca (Anna Kendrick) and the Barden Bellas. I won’t reveal any more details in case you […]
“School of Life” is a Good Lesson on Life
I stumbled upon a movie on TV the other night starring the handsome, and now married, Ryan Reynolds. I’ve been smitten with Reynolds since Two Guys, A Girl and A Pizza Place. The movie I’m writing about was a made-for-TV movie titled School of Life (2005) and starred Reynolds as Michael D’Angelo. It also starred David Paymer as Matt Warner, John Astin as Matt’s father, Norman Warner, and Andrew Robb as Matt’s son, Dylan Warner. School of Life is about a teacher who moves to a town and shakes up the old school way of doing things. Before I get into the details of […]
I Write, Therefore I Am
“When talented people write badly, it’s generally for one of two reasons: Either they’re blinded by an idea they feel compelled to prove or they’re driven by an emotion they must express. When talented people write well, it is generally for this reason: They’re moved by a desire to touch the audience.” — Robert McKee I think I’m a talented writer who writes well, and in everything I write, I like to think that I do it out of a desire to touch the audience. I like to write stories that pull a reader in and engage them to either cheer […]
Feel-Good Movies to Watch
My love for movies began as a child and I love the fact that for 90-120 minutes or so, I can escape into another world full of great characters. When I was a teenager, I had a secret dream of becoming an actress. But that was then, and now I enjoy watching the great actors and actresses that fill the screen on TV or in the movies. I’ve watched a few good movies recently and I’d like to share a couple of them with you. If you haven’t already seen them, then go out and rent one (or buy one) or […]
Take Me Back to the 80’s (Movies, that is)
What better way to spend time with your friends and family this summer than to watch some classic movies from the 1980s. Most people my age remember some of the classic movies of our generation, especially the ones from the 80s. Those were some classic movies! Of the some 31,000+ movies that were made between 1980 and 1989, here is a short list of some of my favorites. We had the John Hughes movies, such as The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Some of my other favorite movies include The Princess Bride, Dirty […]
