Marcus Sakey is a "Brilliant" Author

I love to read. I have loved reading ever since I was a child. Whether it was for school, work, or for the pure pleasure of being transported to another world, my love of reading lives deep within my soul. Most recently, I listened to two books by Marcus Sakey – The Two Deaths of Daniel Hayes, and Brilliance. Christopher Lane narrated The Two Deaths of Daniel Hayes, and Luke Daniels narrated Brilliance. In The Two Deaths of Daniel Hayes, “A man […]

Don't' Just Sit There… Do Something!

I have three nieces, all over the age of 12, and when I found this “activity list” on Pinterest, I immediately thought of them. This list is great for kids of all ages! This list also has some great ideas for families. With the summer between school years getting shorter, it seems, this is a quick activities list filled with great ideas – from chores (clean your room, learn to use the washing machine) to cooking sessions (cupcakes, pizzas), and crafts (make a bird feeder, make a rain water collector) to adventures (pretend you’re a knight, go to a museum). […]

Book Review: Hunger Games Trilogy

Katniss. Gale. Peeta. It’s the love triangle that has the hearts and minds of this generation catching fire! I just finished listening to the final book in the Hunger Games Trilogy. All three books were very well-written. Suzanne Collins sure knows how to spin a phrase. Photo Credit: keepcalm-o-matic.co.uk / Pinterest The Hunger Games, Book 1, introduces us to several memorable characters: Katniss Everdeen, who volunteers as tribute in place of her sister in the Reaping; Katniss’ best friend, Gale Hawthorne, who loves her and promises to take care of her family in the event that she doesn’t come back […]

Book Review: “The Casual Vacancy”

J.K. Rowling’s first foray into adult literature for adults has produced what I consider a very good book. The Casual Vacancy draws you in from the very beginning. Here is a brief synopsis, according to her website, http://www.jkrowling.com/: Photo Credit: www.goodreads.com “When Barry Fairbrother dies unexpectedly in his early forties, the little town of Pagford is left in shock. Seemingly an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at […]

My Favorite Things: A “Smashing” Idea!

One of my favorite things is reading and re-reading magazines and then pulling pages of interest out of the magazine to re-read a third time. But all those loose magazine pages can get lost or torn, so I decided I need a way to smash all of those pages together! Remember the “Slam Book” in Mean Girls? It’s the book that the “mean girls” plastered photos in, and wrote mean and cruel things about their peers and the teachers. Well, my “smashing” idea is not so much of a “slam book” but a “smash book”. It is a smash of all […]
