I forgot how beautiful Whitney Houston’s voice was until I turned on the TV and watched her in Sparkle, her last acting role before her tragic death. Even though this movie is a couple of years old, seeing Whitney Houston brought a smile to my face and a tear to my eye. She played an over-protective mother of aspiring singer-songwriter Sparkle (played by American Idol winner Jordin Sparks). Sparkle forms a trio with her sisters, Sister Williams (played by Carmen Ejogo) and Delores Williams (played by Tika Sumpter). This movie was to have been Whitney Houston’s acting comeback, as she […]
The Most Fascinating People of 2013
I have always loved to watch Barbara Walter’s special, “The 10 Most Fascinating People”, eager to see who she and her team have deemed to be “fascinating” that year. Her final special aired on Wednesday, December 18th, and she recapped every fascinating person she interviewed for this yearly special. So in keeping with the long tradition once held by the woman I admire (and wanted to be like), here is my list of fascinating people of 2013. My Week in Pins
I was asked this week, “Are you from here?”, meaning if I was from Tennessee. “No,” I said. “I’m from Texas.” This is my response… always! I only spent about 16 years (from age 6 months to age 16) in the great state of Texas. Then I spent two years in Biloxi, Miss., but I’ve lived in Tennessee the longest. I explain to those who ask, “I grew up just outside of Lubbock, in the small town of Levelland. Then we moved to Biloxi when my dad transferred from Reese AFB to Keesler AFB. Then in 1991, I moved to Cleveland, Tennessee, to […]

Her comedic talents shown through in such movies as Death Becomes Her (1992) and It’s Complicated (2009), and she has lent her voice to several movies, including Fantastic Mr. […]
A Few of My Favorite Actresses…
I sat down at my desk this evening with the plan to compile a list of a few of my favorite actors and actresses; however, as I started jotting down names, the list grew longer by the second! So here’s “Part I” of my list… The Actresses (in no particular order)! 1. My favorite Elizabeth Taylor movie is The Taming of the Shrew, which I saw in junior high school English class after we read the play. Even in black and white, she was gorgeous. 2. Judy Garland’s most famous role is probably that of Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. […]
