Summer dresses aren’t necessarily just for the summer months. You can layer pieces under and over a summer dress to make it appropriate for Spring or Fall. For instance, take today’s dress form outfit. It is a summer dress that I bought at a thrift store in Key West, Fla., several years ago. This Juicy Couture dress is perfect for those hot summer nights, but toss a jacket over your shoulders and you’re ready for those cool Spring or Fall evenings. I paired it with my Ann Taylor denim jacket and a brown Nine West belt (with a cool silver buckle)! […]
Dress Form Outfit #7
This blue silk jersey dress is by James Perse. It is the dress I purchased at a thrift store in Chicago last year! I mentioned finding this fabulous dress in a previous post! It is a low v-neck dress, and I usually wear a tank top underneath. This time I paired it with a silky soft scarf.
More Material Than I Can Shake A Stick At
I went to my Grandma Howard’s house this past weekend and spent about two hours going through her fabric closet. It’s no “Mood Designer Fabric” store, but it’s more material than I can shake a stick at. And get this – I don’t even own a sewing machine! Although I left quite a bit of material and fabric scraps behind, I hauled away a large black garbage bag full of potential skirts, vests, wrap dresses, tops, pillow case covers, etc. The possibilities are endless, if only I had a sewing machine. Grandma Howard even offered to give me her old sewing machine, as did […]
MOL Challenge, Day 6
So far in my “Month of Letters” Challenge, I’ve written six letters to friends and family. I decided that even though mail doesn’t run on Sundays or holidays, that’s no reason to not write an extra letter or jot a quick note down in a funny card. In each letter I’ve written so far, I’ve enclosed a small gift. In the first letter, I enclosed several pictures; in the second, a drawing; in the third, confetti; in the fourth, a quote from a magazine; and in the fifth, magazine clippings about the Twilight Saga. My sixth letter, mailed out this […]
A Few of My Favorite Things
“Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens, Brown paper packages tied up with string, These are a few of my favorite things…” – Maria, played by Julie Andrews in Sound of Music. I often find myself singing this song, especially when it comes to “my favorite things.” I credit Oprah for giving me this idea. In her magazine, she has a section of her “favorite things.” She even dedicated an entire show every season to “her favorite things.” The word “thing” has many definitions. It means “a separate and self-contained entity.” It also […]
