Yesterday I posted a blog entitled “Roaming the Outer Banks” and I included some photos of my trip. One of those photos was of a “Mermaid’s Purse”, which was identified by someone who read my post. (Thank you, Joy, for identifying this photo!) I’d never heard of this before, so I “googled” it. According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egg_case_(Chondrichthyes): An egg case or egg capsule, colloquially known as a mermaid’s purse or devil’s purse, is a casing that surrounds the fertilized eggs of some sharks, skates, and chimaeras. They are among the common objects which are washed up by the sea. They […]

Roaming the Outer Banks

I love the beach – the breeze coming off the water as the waves come in, the smell of sea and sand, the hunt for sea shells. Last week, I roamed a small section of the Outer Banks (North Carolina) beach, specifically behind our hotel in Kitty Hawk. The only “tourist-y” thing my husband and I did was visit the Currituck Beach Lighthouse. The base walls of the lighthouse measure over five (5) feet thick. Enjoy these photos… One evening, we ate at Pete’s Pour House & Ocean Grille. I ordered the Chicken Nachos Grande and it was definitely a […]

Dress Form Outfit #18

Last week I went to the Outer Banks in North Carolina with my husband.  Neither of us had been there before and luckily we had a few hours one afternoon so we hit up a couple of thrift stores in the Kitty Hawk area. I gave myself a $25 Thrift Store Challenge, meaning I could only spend $25 total at one or more thrift stores. Luckily, I ended up with five great pieces from two different thrift stores. This week’s Dress Form Outfit features one of those fabulous finds! At The Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughter Thrift Store, located in Kitty Hawk, […]

Dress Form Outfit #17

This week’s dress form outfit features a black tank top and a olive green pencil skirt. I don’t think you’d need a necklace since the tank top has an embellished neckline, but feel free to pile on the thin bracelets and a simple pair of gold hoop earrings. To make this a “work appropriate” outfit, slip on a pair of black high heels and a cardigan. To make this outfit work for the weekend, slip on a pair of Tory Burch elastic high wedge espadrilles and toss on a denim jacket! I purchased the H&M olive green pencil skirt at the Unclaimed Baggage Center(http://unclaimedbaggage.com) in Scottoboro, AL. It […]

Dress Form Outfit #16

I spent a few hours yesterday cleaning out my closet and found this dress in the back, tucked between a couple of other dresses. I bought it a couple of years ago at a thrift store, but I’ve never worn it. After I tried it on yesterday, I decided to make it this week’s Dress Form Outfit. I don’t really know what color it is, but I think it looks greyish tan. Because it is a sleeveless shift dress, I paired it a wide elastic belt to give the illusion of a waist. I purchased the belt at Marshall’s in Colorado Springs, CO. […]
