Dress Form Outfit #30

Summer is in full swing and my go-to outfits are either dresses or skirts. This week’s dress form is my favorite (and most worn) denim dress. I’ve owned it for probably 12 years (or more) and even though it’s faded a bit, it is still just as comfortable and “in style” (at least I think so) as the day I bought it. I paired it with a brown belt with a silver belt buckle, and draped a multi-strand turquoise necklace around the neck. In the summer, I would wear this dress with some cute brown sandals or wedges. In the […]

Victoria Beckham: A True Style Icon

“I decided what I’m going to wear and it’s been that way since I was fourteen, when my mum let me loose in C&A. She, of course, was my first fashion guru.” – Victoria Beckham, That Extra Half an Inch: Hair, Heels and Everything in Between My fascination with Victoria Beckham began in 2007 when I watched her one-hour TV special, Victoria Beckham: Coming to America. It was part factual and part documentary spoof, but I thought she was really funny and totally fashionable! I googled her and discovered that she had written not one, but two books. The first book was […]

Dress Form Outfit #29

I seem to be drawn to clothing that is black, so I try to add some color when I can to what could be an otherwise drab outfit. This week, I paired a black mini-skirt with a black tank top (last used in DFO #17). I topped this outfit with a turquoise wrap sweater. The sweater has three-quarter length sleeves and is light enough to wear during the summer months. No necklace is needed because of the embellishment along the neckline of the tank top, but I’d wear a few bangles on each wrist and dainty hoop earrings. A bright […]

Movies for a Saturday Matinee

Movies to Watch / www.vanessahwood.com

I’ve been without internet for a few days, so I’ve been watching movies. I watched Real Steel with Hugh Jackman and Thor with Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman. I know I’m probably behind the times when it comes to watching new release movies, but I’ll eventually watch them. Thankfully, my local library has a great selection of movies that I can check out for a week at a time. So if you are stuck in the house on a Saturday afternoon – or any day or night, for that matter – you could watch such classic “chick flicks” like 16 Candles, Pretty in Pink, or Say […]

Dress Form Outfit #28

This week’s dress form outfit is very special because it features a vintage wedding dress worn by my husband’s grandmother, or “Maw” as she is affectionately known by all of us. R.C. and Audrey were married on May 4, 1946. Audrey had a double wedding with her sister, Jean. The four of them even honeymooned in Florida together. The dress has aged quite a bit, but it is still quite beautiful. The satin bodice features delicate cutouts around the neckline. The long sleeves feature three buttons along the wrists and a long line of buttons dress up the back of […]
