I wrote a free-form poem (or something) on 7/14/1994 entitled “3 a.m.” It’s nothing fancy, but I found it along with all the short stories and poems I wrote as a teenager, which dates back to 1989. Anyway, I thought I’d share “3 a.m.” with you – my friends. 3 a.m. 3 a.m. is a beautiful time in the morning in which God set aside for me. I may not always be awake to see that time in the morning, but when I’m awake, it is such a wondrous site. One morning at 3 a.m., the moon shone so bright […]
Weekend Home Project: Repainting Our Space
How I managed to turn a 4-6 hour repainting project into a three-day repaiting project is beyond my husband’s comprehension, but he was out of town on business when I decided to repaint our studio apartment-size space all by myself. (Sidebar: This three-day repainting project is one of the reasons why I haven’t posted a blog since last week… sorry about that!) A couple of months ago, I purchased three gallons of paint – two gallons of ColorPlace paint in Pearl Gray and one gallon of ColorPlace paint in Marshmellow White. On a whim one evening, I stopped by the […]
How to Discourage an Amorous Cardinal
I occasionally enjoy bird-watching. We live out in the country where beautiful birds can be seen and heard chirping beautiful songs. I’m not an avid bird-watcher like Steve Martin, Jack Black and Owen Wilson were in The Big Year, in which these three gentlemen compete in a year-long bird-spotting competition. But then there are those times when I feel the need to pop a pellet in a bird’s tail feathers, like Zooey Dechanel did in Failure to Launch. If you don’t remember that scene, rent the movie! It may not have been a blockbuster movie, but it’s got Matthew McConaughy […]
Befriending a Soldier
President John F. Kennedy once said, “And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.” To me, Memorial Day is not only about the cookouts and outdoor fun with family and friends, but it is a day to remember those who have died in our nation’s service. (www.usmemorialday.org). Back in March, I sent a care package to a soldier currently stationed in Afghanistan. Earlier this week, I got a letter from her! Her name is Megan and she is scheduled to come back to the states in […]
A Nod to Someone’s Artwork
Even though I recently took up watercolor painting, I am no where near the realm of talent that both my Aunt Juanita and my cousin Nathan possess. I don’t think my cousin Nathan has a website which showcases his artwork, except maybe on his personal Facebook page, but below are a couple of pieces he gave to me. He is super talented. He usually hides his wife’s initials (LL) somewhere in his artwork. My Aunt Juanita has a website: http://juanitahoward.com/. Last year she won the Elvis in 1956 Art Contest and received tons of prizes. Check out her winning Elvis […]
