Dear Mom, Happy Mother’s Day, Mom! You have taken care of me, in one way or another, for the past 43 years, and you continue to take care of me to this day. You have become so much more than my mother. You are my friend. I don’t remember the day that you transitioned from being just my mother to being both my mother and my friend, because it happened so easily that I guess it was just a natural progression of our relationship. Me and my mom, enjoying some frozen virgin strawberry daiquiris. You have encouraged me when my […]
Dah-ling I Love You but Give Me Park Avenue
“Green Acres is the place for me. Farm livin’ is the life for me. Land spreadin’ out so far and wide. Keep Manhattan, just give me that countryside. New York is where I’d rather stay. I get allergic smelling hay. I just adore a penthouse view. Dah-ling I love you but give me Park Avenue. …The chores. …The stores. …Fresh air. …Times Square. You are my wife. Good bye, city life. Green Acres we are there.” Green Acres was a popular show back in the late 1960s-early 1970s. I was born in 1973, but I remember watching this show as […]
My 101 Things in 1001 Days List
For the past two hours, I have been perusing Pinterest, clicking on links, and reading blog posts by other bloggers about fashion, beauty rituals, Coachella, as well as watching a few DIY and “how-to” videos. But for the past 30 minutes, I have been reading other blogger’s “101 things in 1001 days lists.” I thought to myself, “What a cool idea!” Who inspired me to do this list? It was two bloggers… first was Kate from Kate The Almost Great, and she pointed me in the direction of Mackenzie Horan at Design Darling, who put together her first list together in 2011. This list, like Mackenzie says, […]
Sunday Inspiration: Lose Yourself to Find Yourself
Sometimes you have to lose yourself in order to find yourself. I was asked to come to the rescue of my oldest niece on Friday when she was involved in a single-car wreck on her way home from college for the weekend. On our way to meet her mother, we started talking about how she’s doing in college and what’s been going on in her life lately. She said that she changed her major (Forensic Anthropology to English, like me), pulled a muscle in her abdomen, and now, wrecked her car (her only mode of transportation to and from college). […]
Contemplating a Name Change
I’m contemplating a name change. No, not my actual name, but the name of my blog. When I started blogging in 2012, I was using my blog the try to find my voice, blogging about anything and everything, kind of an eclectic mix of a lot of topics. Now I’m trying to narrow my niche and brand myself. So from “My Life This Year” to “A City Girl in the Country”. Why the name change? Because I really am a city girl in the country. I think like a city girl, I act like a city girl, I (try to) […]
