DIY skincare has become so popular lately. It promises a lot of unique benefits that you won’t get from regular skincare products that you buy off the shelf {without the harsh, toxic, and unsafe chemicals}.
However, DIY skincare isn’t for everyone and some people actually suggest that you avoid it unless you’ve done a lot of research on the topic and have the funds necessary for the ingredients and tools to make it work. So before you start scrubbing food items onto your skin, here are some considerations to keep in mind.
What advantages does DIY skincare offer you?
One of the best ways to look after your skin is to focus on a personalized skincare routine that meets your needs. By choosing items that are good for your type of skin and your circumstances, you’ll have a much healthier-looking complexion.
If you’re considering DIY skincare, then make sure you look at the potential advantages to see if it’s worth the time, effort and money that it’s ultimately going to cost you.
You might not have the tools or equipment needed for it
You might need specific tools and equipment to actually make certain kinds of DIY skincare products. This is generally the case for anything fairly complicated such as a homemade moisturizer.
However, if you’re just making a regular sugar scrub, then it’s not going to be very complicated at all. {Some tools or equipment can be purchased from local beauty supply stores or online from sites like Amazon.}
DIY skincare can’t do everything
There are lots of reasons to use DIY skincare, but you have to remember that it’s not going to fill in every one of your needs. For example, there’s a brightening, cruelty-free face serum from Dose of Colors that you just won’t be able to replicate with ingredients that you buy yourself.
Whether the materials are hard to obtain or just expensive unless you buy in bulk, just keep in mind that there’s a reason why these skincare companies exist. If everyone could get fantastic skincare benefits at home with ease and for a cheaper price, then there wouldn’t be much of a market!
Quality ingredients don’t come cheap
One of the big advertised benefits of DIY skincare is that you can save money on products. However, the reality is that quality ingredients don’t come cheap. If you want a high-quality skincare product at home, you need to invest in quality ingredients to ensure that it works and fits your needs. If you use cheap extracts or low concentrations, then you’re not going to get the desired effects.
You might be putting yourself in danger
There are actually many dangerous skincare recipes that might put you in danger, especially if you have an allergic reaction to something. It’s also dangerous to give your DIY skincare products to other people as it might have a completely different effect on their skin compared to yours.
I always say that everyone is different. My skincare needs are not necessarily the same as your skincare needs. I have made several DIY body scrubs using sugar and coffee. I have also use used essential oils in some of my DIY scrubs and skincare moisturizers.
Just remember that when researching and experimenting with DIY skincare recipes, you should always be extremely cautious about the ingredients you use and test in small batches.
