Last week was Boss’s Day and it got me to thinking about some badass female bosses, both on-screen and off. Today’s post is my way of honoring and cheering on those truly inspiring and phenomenal real-life boss ladies!
Some of these women have made us laugh and some of them have made us cry. And there may even be a couple that would make you up and quit like Andy Sachs did in The Devil Wears Prada.
And speaking of The Devil Wears Prada… The first female boss that came to mind was Miranda Priestly. You know her, right? She was the “bitchy-boss-who-looks-down-her-nose-at-the-new-girl” editor-in-chief of “Runway” magazine in The Devil Wears Prada.
Other big screen bosses include Anne Hathaway as Jules in The Intern; Gabrielle Union as Evangeline Dandridge in Deliver Us From Eva; and Judi Dench as James Bond’s boss “M” in Golden Eye. Then there is the sexy Samantha Jones, played by Kim Cattrall, in Sex and the City. She knew her way around the office as well as the bedroom.
And watch out for Kerry Washington’s Olivia Pope on Scandal. Then there are funny girl bosses like Leslie Knope, played by Amy Poehler, on Parks & Recreation, Liz Lemon, played by Tina Fey, on 30 Rock, and Mindy Lahiri, played by Mindy Kaling, on The Mindy Project.
Then there are real-life “girl bosses” — Jess Levin Conroy of Carats & Cake, Katherine Power and Hillary Kerr of Clique Brands, Inc., Julia Hartz of Eventbrite, Sophia Amoruso of Nasty Gal, Julie Carlson of Remodelista, and Anna Wintour, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue. Even Mindy Kaling and Tina Fey are top female bosses, because they have their hands in every aspect of their professional businesses!

So ladies… how ’bout it? Why don’t we celebrate the “Girl Boss” in all of us! Check out I Am That Girl for tips on how you can live your life like a boss and get real with your goals.
Who is your favorite “on-screen” female boss? A few of mine include Tina Fey as Liz Lemon {30 Rock}, Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope {Parks & Recreation}, Christine Baranski as Diane Lockhart {The Good Wife}, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Selina Meyer {Veep}, and Viola Davis as Annalise Keating {How to Get Away With Murder}.
Do you have a kick-ass female boss that you’d like to honor? If so, then just leave me a comment below and I’ll do everything within my “girl boss” powers to give them a shout-out!
Yours Truly,
Vanessa
