I’m not going to claim that I have “Italian style”, but I do own a Vespa. Besides, one doesn’t just have “Italian style” {unless you’re Italian}, but you can, over time, embody the essence of the Italian woman.
The Italian woman commands an outfit with ease. Not only that, but they carry their look with confidence. It’s not what you’re wearing, but how you present yourself. They are also not worried about perfection because they are too busy living life.
The most important thing to keep in mind when looking to embody Italian style is this — dress to flatter your shape. Choose your clothing based on this principle. You’ll have an overall more feminine style, which means you’ll be embracing your natural beauty and accentuating your best features.
To adopt this approach to your wardrobe, begin by learning about your unique body shape. And on that note, have fun with your style. Don’t shy away from bold colors, kooky patterns, or fun shapes. Just remember, there is a reason why Italians are the masters of couture.
Don’t take my word for it. Read Red‘s Fashion Director Oonagh Brennan top 5 trends for how to dress like an Italian. Then check out these outfit inspirations below to show us how we can add some Italian style to our look as we head into summer.

Dresses over Trousers
Cinched Waists {flatter your shape}
“I wish there was a formula, but there isn’t, at least not that I can tell. The best thing I think I could say is to buy traditional pieces and wear them in a nonchalant way. It’s classicism but approached with no pretense.” GQ.COM Style Editor and freelance fashion reporter Max Berlinger
