Summer means a new way of living – vacations, trips to the beach, evenings out with friends. And that, in turn, generally means a spending a little money for new items for your summer wardrobe.
Most of us have figured out what we’d like our summer style to be, and whether you’re aiming for Riviera chic, luxe boho or a safari vibe, then it takes money to be able to overhaul your look.
What if you could find a way to shop smart and be able to get great style for less? Even with a minimal budget, and with a few tips and tricks, you could be well on your way to the new summer style you’ve dreamed of.
Take Advantage of the Sales
With the pace of new trends and stock turnover being so high these days, you’re only ever a minute away from your favorite retailer having a sale. Take advantage of this by using a shopping comparison site if your item is sold on multiple websites, or by signing up for the shop’s newsletter and following them on social media, where exclusive discounts, offers and news of sales will be posted.
Always have a quick search for coupon codes, as you may be able to get even more money off your item – potentially saving up to 60 per cent before the season even really begins!
Streamline Your Budget
If we’re honest, most of us have expenses that we don’t really need, and if funding fashion is a priority for you, it could be as simple as trimming your personal budget to make a few extra savings.
There are now many very useful money management apps, which let you round up your card transactions and deposit the leftover money in savings. There are also apps that will scan your email account for unused subscriptions and deactivate them.
You should also bring your comparison shopping skills to bear on the less fun expenses, such as your utility bills and car insurance cost. Most of us stick with the same providers by habit, but that rarely gets us the best deal.
By shopping around, you could save hundreds on essential costs, which you can then channel towards better things like your new season wardrobe.
Go For Accessories
If you really can’t afford a full wardrobe update right now, accessories are the easy, fun, and affordable way to give a nod to new trends or inject a little of your personality into your look.
The right scarf, belt, necklace or pair of shoes can really freshen up your old faithful clothing pieces. Buying accessories can quench your shopping thirst without costing as much as a brand new wardrobe, and new accessories have loads of transformative power.
Buy Pre-Loved
If your focus is on building a collection of quality pieces, but you don’t have the funds for expensive fabrics and designer labels, pre-loved is definitely the way to go.
Using platforms like Depop and eBay, where you can save searches for designers or pieces that you’d really like, means that you may end up paying far less for better quality.
If you have a few big occasions coming up this summer, also remember that you can use a dress rental company {think Rent the Runway} to get a gorgeous designer outfit without the platinum card budget – perfect for things you’re only likely to wear once.
