It’s beginning to look a lot like wedding season. Couples are getting engaged or they are finalizing plans for their big day. Brides everywhere have already picked out their dresses and their bridesmaids dresses. But as a guest to their wedding, what do you wear?
I guess that all-important question of what to wear depends on why style of wedding you are attending. Is it black tie? Formal or semi-formal? Cocktail attire or casual attire? Or is it a themed wedding? The wedding invitation may indicate what style to wear, but if not, don’t hesitate to ask the bride for suggestions on what style to wear.
Other factors to take into consideration when looking for an outfit to wear to a wedding are the time of year {winter, spring, summer, or fall}, the time of day {late morning, early afternoon, or evening}, and the venue {church, country club, fancy hotel}.
When selecting your outfit for your friend’s big day, consider these two big style “no nos” when it comes to what to wear.
1. Do not ignore the dress code, if one is noted on the invitation. Be respectful and follow it rather than ignore it.
2. Do not wear white. Never wear white unless you’re the bride {even if the bride opts to not wear white}.
You don’t want to upstage the bride, so let’s take a look a some styles that are wedding appropriate.

You can style a neutral outfit with some fabulous accessories {i.e. fancy clutch, a scarf, bold earrings or a chunky necklace, or stand-out heels}. A lace dress is always a beautiful option for wedding guests, but so are pretty florals, stripes, ruffles, and tiered dresses.
Whatever you choose to wear to a summer wedding, there are a lot of affordable options and styles. Just remember, you can still express your personal style while not upstaging the bride.
Happy wedding season, y’all!
Yours Truly,
Vanessa
