Sometimes I daydream about winning the lottery and traveling the world. My wanderlust bucket list keeps growing every day and today, with part 2 of my “travel bucket list”, I’m sharing more far away destinations that I find fascinating and hope to travel to one day.
Iceland
My friend, Karis, has traveled to Iceland several times. In fact, I think she says that it is one of her most favorite places to visit. I always thought the the Blue Lagoon was some tropical destination that Brooke Shields was stranded on, but it’s actually in Iceland.
If you want to get a good idea of the landscape of Iceland, then just watch Ben Stiller in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
Phuket, Thailand
Far away places like Thailand really fascinate me {idk why}! Phuket’s draw to my wanderlust heart may be because of the lush, rainforest scenery, the pristine beaches, the Big Buddha, the Buddhist temples, or the many high-end seaside resorts.
If I’m not mistaken, I think part of Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason was filmed in Phuket. And if you’re a Leo DiCaprio fan, then you know that his movie, The Beach, was filmed in Phuket. {Also, is it wrong of me to admit that I actually just like saying this place? LOL!}
Jerusalem
Jerusalem is an ancient city in the Middle East, and as the granddaughter of a preacher, I have been intrigued with Jerusalem and the Holy Land since childhood. I would look at the maps in the back of my Bible and imagine what it really looked like. Now, I’m still fascinate with Jerusalem and other people’s pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
This destination holds a lot of history and still has some amazing architecture. {Interesting tidbit: Natalie Portman was born in Jerusalem and holds dual citizenships in Israel and America.}
St. Lucia
The first doctor I worked for took a vacation to St. Lucia and showed me photos of his stay there. St. Lucia is in the Eastern Caribbean Sea and is lush and green and is one of my dream destinations.
St. Lucia plays a starring role in Johnny Depp’s movie, Pirates of the Caribbean.
Budapest
The architecture is amazingly beautiful, and the culture is so interesting. This landlocked European country is beautiful, and Budapest {Hungary’s capital} is bisected by the River Danube. One grand place on my to-see list would be the Hungarian Parliament building.
Movies filmed in Budapest include Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Spy {with Melissa McCarthy}, andTinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. And if you know who Barbara Palvin is, then you know that she is Hungary’s most famous model. I’m also a fan of model Vanessa Axente {for obvious reasons!}.
Tulum
I know a lot of bloggers rave about Tulum. Even part of Bachelor in Paradise was filmed in Tulum. I can just imagine lounging on the beach with the waves as my background noise. I could probably just take a nap in one of the beachside hammocks.
Tulum is just less than two hours south of Cancun. If you’re looking for someplace popular but still kind of undiscovered, then Tulum may just be the place for you!
Greece
The white-washed houses set against the blue waters of the sea make a perfect background for anyone’s photos.
Famous Greeks include Maria Menounos, John Stamos, Arianna Huffington, and Nina Vardarlos. If you want to see Greece on film, then rent Mamma Mia!, My Life in Ruins, Before Midnight, or The Two Faces of January.
What do you think about these destinations? Have you been to any of them? What other far away destinations would you recommend I put on my bucket list? Let me know in the comments below!
Yours Truly,
Vanessa
