Who doesn’t love a good love story? I know I sure do! I love to watch romantic movies and read romantic books. I also love to read and hear about how people and “fell in love”.
Just like everyone, celebrities have romantic meet-cute stories. For example, did you know that Chrissy Teigen met John Legend on the set of his music video for “Stereo” where she co-starred as his love-interest? And did you know that Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen were set up on a blind date by a mutual friend?
So in honor of Valentine’s Day, I thought I’d share some sweet celebrity and Royal love stories. And if you want to hear about my love story with my husband, then check out THIS post!
Celebrity Love Stories
David Beckham and Victoria Beckham met while in the Manchester United players lounge, but David apparently first saw Victoria in a Spice Girls music video and told a friend, “See the girl in the dark short dress? I’m going to marry her.” Then after they met, she gave him her phone number {he apparently still has the London-to-Manchester plane ticket on which she wrote it}.
Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis met on the set of Saturday Night Live and then kept running into each other afterwards. It was only after a friend of Jason’s gave him Olivia’s phone number that he called and asked her out.
Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi first met on a photo shoot in 2004. Portia, who had yet to come out a gay, once said that she didn’t think “no one would ever love me if they knew I was gay and especially if they saw I was fat.” But Ellen noticed her and liked who she was, and the rest is her-story!
Justin Timberlake called Jessica Biel {yes, on the phone} and asked her out the “old fashioned way”. He once said that “if you’re asking a girl out on a date, it’s only right to do it in a way that she can hear your voice.”
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos met on the set of a daytime soap opera, and after just a couple of months, he suggested they fly to Vegas and get married. They’ve now been married more than 20 years and are still going strong.
Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham first met in 1986 at a charity event in Chicago, the same year she launched her wildly successful talk show. Although they have been together for over 30 years, they are not married but support each other fully.
Royal Love Stories
Prince William and Kate Middleton met while at St. Andrews University, and while she “went bright red and scuttled off” after meeting the prince face-to-face, he was obviously interested in her because he paid £200 to sit front row at a charity catwalk show where she modeled a racy outfit.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were set up through a mutual friend. Everyone knows how their love story played out, but after the pair first met for drinks, they immediately knew that they wanted to see each other again. That was in 2016. After a whirlwind romance and a lavish Royal wedding, they are now expecting their first child together.
Prince Rahim Aga Khan and American model Kendra Spears (Princess Salwa Aga Khan) met through their mutual friend, supermodel Naomi Campbell. They reportedly dated just four months before he popped the question.
King Felipe VI of Spain met Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano in 2002, when she was on assignment as a journalist for CNN, reporting on an oil slick on the shoreline of Galicia. Letizia was there to report on the disaster, while Felipe was there to visit those affected. Two years later, they married.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip had been at the same gatherings on a number of occasions when they were younger, but it wasn’t until 1939, on the tennis courts in Devon, that Her Majesty {who was just a Princess at that time} fell in love with Prince Phillip of Greece. It’s been said that Prince Phillip caught Lilibet’s eye as he entertained her by jumping over tennis nets.
Love stories like these are all around us! And sometimes it takes a commercialized holiday like Valentine’s Day to hear and read about them!
