CBD oil has become the hottest new products, being credited with helping to treat everything from epileptic seizures and anxiety to inflammation/pain relief and sleeplessness. Although it has some amazing benefits for the body, it’s also being used in everything from skincare to haircare.
“CBD oil is made by extracting CBD from the cannabis plant, then diluting it with a carrier oil like coconut or hemp seed oil.”

Getting Personal About CBD {Not Beauty-Related}
My first experience with CBD oil was not actually for me. It was for my husband, Mike. He was involved in a very serious motorcycle accident in August 2018 in which he collided with and flipped over a vehicle after it pulled out in front of him on a busy highway. {You can see photos of his bruises on his Instagram. You may have to scroll down his feed a ways to see the photos.}
Mike was admitted into the hospital and was tentatively scheduled for surgery the next day. After several x-rays and CT scans, we were told that he had fractured a few of his ribs and his pelvis {in front and back}, pulled the ligaments away from the left side of his pelvis, suffered a minor liver laceration, and had two skull fractures resulting in two different types of brain bleeds. We also think he broke some of the bones in his feet and both of his big toes. Believe it or not, but he didn’t actually have any road rash; only lots of deep bruising.
Thankfully, he didn’t need surgery to put pins in his pelvis or to repair the liver laceration. And after a week in the hospital, we finally went home. But while we were at the hospital, I started reading up on CBD oil. After a few days of reading about the pros and cons of CBD oil, I broached the subject with Mike. He was game for anything because he was in such pain.
A few weeks later at a blogger workshop in Nashville, I met Dr. Carmen April, a podiatrist from the Nashville area who was discussing the benefits of CBD oil with some other bloggers. She mentioned that CBD oil not only helps with inflammation and pain, but it also helps to promote bone healing. That’s when I chimed in and told them about Mike and how just a few weeks after taking the CBD oil, he was making progress and feeling better.
Now Mike is still taking CBD oil {we first tried Charlotte’s Web} in tincture form {he puts a few drops under his tongue twice a day}, and he has a balm {also from Charlotte’s Web} that he applies topically to the places that he has pain {like his elbows, shoulders, and lower back}.
{SIDEBAR: Funny story – I applied the balm to his back one evening and afterwards, I sneezed like 14-15 times in a row. Does that mean I’m allergic to it?}
I wrote about my husband’s experience to say this — everyone’s experience is different. You’ve got to do your own research and determine if it’s right for you.
Don’t just do it because everyone else is doing it. And if you’re serious about trying it but take a ton of medications for various medical issues, don’t forget to check with your physician to get their take on how CBD oil, to avoid any harmful drug interactions as it may interfere with certain medications.
Do you use CBD oil? If so, how has it worked for you? Also, what brand of CBD oil to you prefer? Do you take it orally {tincture}, use a balm, or do you use it in your hair care or skin care beauty routine? Let me know by leaving a comment below!
Yours Truly,
