“A guy’s biggest style mistake is definitely trying to look too cool. As long as you’ve got a good pair of jeans, a good pair of boots and a few good shirts, you’re fine.” – Luke Evans
Welsh actor Luke Evans may have been named one of GQ magazine’s “50 Best Dressed British Men” in 2015, but in my book, he still is a “man of style” in 2019.
In an interview with Ryan Gilby for The Guardian, Luke Evans said, “I’ve been told I give off a very masculine vibe.” And indeed, he does.
A Few Things To Know About Luke Evans:
- Luke was raised in a small village in the rural Welsh valleys.
- The only child of a bricklayer and a cleaner, Luke and his parents are a tight-knit family, supporting Luke’s decision to channel all of his creative energy into studying the stage area at the age of 16. {Source: Interview by Matthew Baxter-Priest for Esquire.}
- He landed his first film audition when he was 30 years old and made his film debut as the Greek God Apollo in the 2010 movie “Clash of Titans.” He garnered good reviews in this role.
- Evans is openly gay. In a 2002 interview, he said, “Everybody knew me as a gay man, and in my life in London I never tried to hide it,” and that by being open he would not have “that skeleton in the closet they can rattle out”.
In 2004, he said that his being out had not caused his acting career to suffer. In 2014, Evans acknowledged the importance of marketability, and that, although he does not hide his sexual orientation, he is reluctant to discuss it with the media. {Source: Wikipedia}
- Luke was also named one of GQ’s “Best Dressed Men in the World” for 2019. According to GQ, “Luke Evans wears clothes that accentuate his frame. Plus, he chooses the sort of muted palette that feels incredibly luxurious.
“I’ve met and dressed all sorts of men in my life, but Luke exudes a charm and elegance that’s very rare and unique.” – Donatella Versace, designer
“I come from a family who couldn’t give a s**t about having nice clothes, or the biggest house, or the best car. Where I grew up, things were much more simplistic than that, and it makes them all a very happy bunch of people,” he says. {Source: Esquire}
When he showed up for his photoshoot for Esquire magazine, interviewer Matthew Baxter-Priest noted that Luke, who had just returned from Rome, was “looking tanned (and very Italian).”
He also said that Luke was on “a charm offensive from the moment he walks onto the White Rabbit studio for the Esquire shoot. Dressed in a summery printed shirt, skinny jeans, brown leather jacket and, naturally, a new pair of clean white Tod’s sneakers, his cheerfulness seems effortlessly authentic.”
During the photo shoot, Baxter-Priest said that Luke was “rather smitten with the selection of Grenson shoes and the high-waisted trousers.”
“It’s not something that I’d ever think to wear, but now I’ve tried them it is definitely something that I could see myself wearing to somewhere like Cannes,” he {Luke} says.
“Good suits don’t come from anywhere, though – I mainly wear Armani, Louis Vuitton and Burberry.” – Luke Evans
Luke Evans sure has panache and a style that warrants him being on every “best dressed” list in the world.
