If you’ve not seen the ABC comedy series Fresh Off the Boat, or this year’s rom-com-drama film Crazy Rich Asians, then you may not be familiar with Constance Wu. And if you don’t know who this stunningly beautiful American actress is, then you’re about to fall in love with my pick for this month’s “Woman of Style”.
Constance Wu is an American actress, who is best known for her starring roles as Jessica Huang in Fresh Off the Boat, and as Rachel Chu in Crazy Rich Asians.
And here’s a fun fact: Crazy Rich Asians is the first Hollywood movie to feature an Asian-American cast in 25 years! WOAH!
In an article for ELLE, Grace O’Neill quoted Constance Wu: “Before CRA, I hadn’t even done a tiny part in a studio film, I never dreamed I would get to star n one,” Wu wrote in a heartfelt open letter on Twitter before the film’s US release in early August. “I had never seen that happen to someone who looked like me. CRA is changing that.”
O’Neill went on to write: “There’s also the added element of Constance Wu’s style. A self-confessed fashion obsessive, Wu counts Prabal Gurung as a friend and her favoured brands range from The Vampire’s Wife to Versace and Johanna Ortiz.”
A Few Facts About Constance Wu
In 2017, she was included on the annual Time 100 list of the most influential people in the world.
Wu was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, in a Taiwanese American family. Her parents emigrated from Taiwan.
She is a graduate with a BFA from the prestigious SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Acting, ’09.
She has a pet bunny named Lida Rose.
When she is not acting, she likes to read. “I read a lot — I actually think that’s a big part of what made me become an actor. When I was little, I wanted to become a writer.”
Her Skin Care Regimen
“First thing: I chug a bunch of water, and then I usually do something pretty simple. You know those Neutrogena makeup wipes? I use either those or just water. I follow that with Drunk Elephant vitamin C serum. I shop at Sephora a lot because they’re really cool about letting you try things out. This was a recommended product there, so I gave it a go and loved it. Then I use La Mer Moisturizing Soft Cream. The first time I heard about La Mer was in middle school, and I read that J.Lo used it.” {The New York Times}
