When my family lived in Levelland, Texas, I can remember spending my summers at my local library. I would walk from the newspaper where my mother worked, down to the library where I would casually stroll down the aisles of the shelves looking for books to read. I loved cracking open new or old books just to smell the ink on the pages. And here’s the funny thing — I still do that today when I go to my local library.
Have you ever imagined what your dream home library would look like? Well, I have! I was perusing Pinterest one evening, and I found these personal libraries that I wish I could live in for a few days. Some are small and cozy-like, while others are spacious and breathtakingly beautiful.
So let’s take a look, shall we?
Create a cozy nook, or enjoy the openness?
I’m would probably end of falling asleep in the little reading nook, but I do like the spaciousness of the second library {which is allegedly Karl Lagerfeld’s home library}. Which do you prefer?
Multi-level Reading Rooms!
First of all, could you imagine unboxing and shelving all these books? Secondly, would you alphabetize these books like the library does? I do like the look of this personal library — books on the top level, but you could still entertain guests in this room without the feeling that the walls are closing in on you.
Here’s another two-level room, which feels {and looks} like more of a living room/library area. And I do like that there is a grand piano in this room!
Dark or Light?
I like these personal libraries as well because they are totally different. One is dark and one is light. The first library I imagine I would see in a spacious log cabin style home. The second library I could see in a European house, mainly because of all the busts {I imagine they are busts of famous composers}.
Room with a View?
I think a personal library with a view would be amazing. Again, I like that this first room has a grand piano. And just look at that view! I could totally seeing myself living in this room, reading books, playing the piano, and communing with nature. This is actually a private library in a home designed by Gianni Botsford, in Cahuita, Costa Rica.
The second library also has a nice view, although it’s not really obvious in the photo. I like that there is a sweet dog waiting in that library for me to join him. This is actually a private library designed by architecture firm Ilai {photography by Lukas Wassmann}.
Personal Space or Work Space?
How would you use your personal library? Would you literally use it to read while you lounge on a pink chaise? Or would you use it as a place to work, with a built-in computer desk surrounded by books? Both of these personal libraries are not as expansive as the other ones, but there is something I like about these well-lit spaces.
Do you have a personal library space where you enjoy spending time? I’d love to hear about it! Or better yet — share it on your Instagram account and tag me {@vanessa_h_wood} so I can check out your home library!
Yours Truly,
Vanessa
