Today is Day 5 of “Blogtober” and every Friday this month, I will feature some great fall fashion tips and trends in a four-part series I’m calling “Fashion Friday”. It is always a pleasure when other bloggers reach out to me with an idea and want to contribute to my blog. So when Laura Lee contacted me and pitched today’s fashion post, I was thrilled to share it as a kick-off for this month’s fashion series.
Laura is a fashion enthusiast and lover of all things fitness. When she isn’t reading the “Gospel According To Coco Chanel”, you can catch her kayaking with her golden retriever Annie.
Fashion Trends for Fall
If there’s one rule of thumb that every fashion lover knows by heart, it’s that timeless classics should be everyone’s go-to staples when it comes to building a look. However, each new season also comes along with exciting new trends that can and should be used to update your collection and keep it contemporary.
The key is to identify which of the many pieces out there are the best possible options in which to invest. The following ten pieces are the ones we’ve personally identified as must-haves for this fall. Add some (or all) of them to your wardrobe and step into the season in style.
-
Floral Dress
Floral dresses seem to appear in one incarnation or another every fall, and with good reason. They’re not only beautifully fresh ways to welcome fall, but they look wonderful on absolutely everyone. They’re versatile enough to wear all season long, to boot.
This season’s florals are all about marrying sumptuous fall shades with big, bold prints that really catch the eye. Pick out several you like and wear them throughout the fall and winter with tights, booties, shawls, cardigans, layered ensembles, and more.
-
Capelet
Multiple designers (Burberry and Christian Dior included) showcased adorably posh capelets as part of their collection earlier in the season. As a result, you’ll be seeing them adorn many a pair of stylish shoulders this fall. A capelet makes a great addition to any wardrobe because it’s just so wearable. Check out Simply Noelle’s Nantucket Button Wrap Capelet.
Use it to add a touch of class to any outfit, from your go-to jeans ensemble to your fall “night out on the town” look. Go for a neutral tone to ensure you get as much use out of your pick as possible.
-
Thigh High Boots
Thigh high boots have already been on the map for a while now, and they’re certainly not going anywhere this fall. Granted, they’re not the easiest trend to master. However, they’re well worth your while, as thigh highs can make anyone look long, lean, leggy, and – most importantly of all – stylish.
Create a sexy look that’s to die for when you pair yours with a miniskirt and tights. Pull them on over your favorite pair of leggings or skinny jeans to add a touch of flare. Again, go with a neutral option that gels with multiple items in your wardrobe for maximum wearability.
-
Chunky Ankle Boots
Ankle boots (also known as booties) are another staple that we see year after year in one form or another because of how their versatility. However, the booties to have this Fall are the ones that break the mold in a number of exciting ways. Look for styles that feature chunky heels and luscious materials like suede and brushed leather. Eye-catching touches like leather folds, buckles, or decorative buttons are also hot right now. For instance, we’re positively in love with the stunning Odette.
-
Patterned Scarf
When the temperature drops in the fall, a well-put-together layered look is a must-have. However, no layered fall ensemble can be considered complete without the right scarf. While sensible solids will always be smart choices, this fall it’s all about patterned scarves. Try wearing a sophisticated paisley with a little black dress, black tights, and your favorite pair of black booties. Alternatively, you can go for a playful plaid in colors that complement the rest of your ensemble.
-
Short Strapped Handbag
Of course, no outfit can truly be considered complete without the right handbag in tow. This fall, the bag to have is a roomy option with short straps. Think hobo totes, avenue totes, and others like them! Neutrals are always a wise choice, as they go with a variety of different outfits – but don’t underestimate the power of the right pattern. Animal prints like cheetah and jaguar are an especially popular way to add visual appeal and energy to any ensemble.
-
Quilted Jackets
The colder it gets, the more essential the right outerwear options become. Our favorite picks this season not only help protect you against the elements but make you look like a million dollars while you’re doing it. Just check out this full zip beauty in black from North Face.
Pair it with skinny jeans, a nice high boot, and a stylish hat for a look that will take you all the way through the season in cozy style. Quilted vests are a great option to consider as well.
-
Choker
The bohemian revival look we were all crazy about in the 90s is back in a big way this year. We’re seeing the return of much-loved favorites like platforms, poet shirts, and bell bottoms as a result. Even so, the retro trend we’re most excited to get reacquainted with is the choker. These fashionable must-haves go beautifully with the floral dresses that everyone’s wearing this season. They go fantastically with maxi dresses, simple shifts, or ruffled tops as well. Groovy!
-
Ponchos
When it comes to cozy autumn pieces that feel every bit as good as they look, you really can’t beat a poncho. That’s exactly why we’re so excited to see them back on the fashion scene this fall. Look for beautiful pieces in neutral colors, stripes and plaid patterns like this fun and versatile poncho by Magic Scarf {similar to the one pictured below}.
Shades to watch for this season include warm rust, various shades of brown, black, beige and greys.
-
Duck Boots
Duck boots have topped hundreds of trend lists several autumns running now, and they’re showing no signs of going away anytime soon. That said, this is the year to finally invest in a pair if you’ve been holding out.Look for options that are equal parts stylish and functional – like this elk pair from Sorel.
Pair them with everything from ponchos, to belted overcoats, to quilted vests. You’ll be ready to face whatever the season throws at you, from rain, to snow, to sleet.
Thank you, Laura, for being a part of Blogtober and for sharing these 10 fall trends! I’m seriously in need of those Sorel boots!
