Melania Trump has spectacular style. Even before she became the First Lady of the United States {FLOTUS}, she was a model for fashion houses in Paris and Milan. This Slovenian beauty looks sophisticated and stylish in everything she wears, even that fluted sleeve dress {by Serbian-born designer Roksanda Ilincic} that she wore to the Republican National Convention in 2016.
Whether you like and/or support Melania’s husband or not, you have to admit that there is a wee part of you that is a bit envious of her wardrobe. I mean, has she ever worn the same thing twice? I know that there was some controversy when she became the First Lady and a lot of fashion designers refused {or were hesitant} to dress her {because of her controversial husband}, but I would think that – politics aside – it would be considered an honor to dress the First Lady of the United States.
Interesting facts about Melania:
*Born in Novo Mesto, Melania grew up in Sevnica, in the Yugoslav republic of Slovenia.
*When she began her modeling career, she transcribed the Slovene version of her last name “Knavs” to the German version “Knauss.”
*She moved to Manhattan, New York, in 1996, and became a permanent resident of the United States in 2001, but it wasn’t until 2006 that she obtained her U.S. citizenship.
*This 5-foot 11-inch beauty is one of the tallest First Ladies, tied with Michelle Obama and Eleanor Roosevelt.
*Her Secret Service Code name is “Muse”.
*Her native language is Slovene, but she also speaks Serbo-Croatian, French, Italian, German, and English.
*When visiting Vatican City in May 2017, she revealed that she is a Catholic, making her the first Catholic to live in the White House since President John F. Kennedy and his wife Jacqueline.
Vogue has compared Melania’s wardrobe as First Lady to that of Jacqueline Kennedy and Nancy Reagan, noting that she prefers “strongly tailored pieces” in bold colors and almost exclusively wears high-end designers.
When Elle writer, Hayley Phelan, asked Melania about the challenges of dressing for the campaign over email, she told Hayley: “I don’t find it to be challenging. I style myself and choose what to wear based on what I feel good in it.”
Melania has been noted for wearing what in some circles is called the “editor’s cape” i.e., when a jacket is draped over the shoulders.
Whether you like her or not {especially since she wore that controversial jacket about “not caring”}, she has great style. She has a knack for picking outfits with beautiful, intricate detailing.
Sometimes she has RBF, but she also has a lovely smile.
