London-born thespian and Oscar winner, Daniel Day-Lewis, has a unique style all his own. I recently read an interview with him where the interviewer said that he brought a duffel bag full of his own clothes because he refuses to be “dressed” and is uncomfortable having his photo taken.
Day-Lewis’ style is low-key, eclectic, and carefully chosen, and the movie roles he takes on are equally as stylish, eclectic and carefully chosen. The first movie I saw him in was A Room with a View. He then starred in a series of wonderful movies, like My Left Foot, The Last of the Mohicans, The Age of Innocence, In the Name of the Father, The Crucible, The Boxer, Gangs of New York, There Will be Blood, Nine, and Lincoln. On June 20, 2017, he announced that he was retiring from acting and that Phantom Thread (2017) would be his last acting role. His US agent said that this was a private decision and that no further comment would be made on the subject. {Source: IMDb}
As of 2018, has appeared in eight films that were nominated for the Best Picture and Best Director Oscars: Gandhi (1982), A Room with a View (1985), My Left Foot (1989), In the Name of the Father (1993), Gangs of New York (2002), There Will Be Blood (2007), Lincoln (2012) and Phantom Thread (2017). Gandhi (1982) won in both categories. He was also nominated for Best Actor in the last six of these, winning for My Left Foot, There Will Be Blood and Lincoln. {Source: IMDb}
Day-Lewis is an amazing actor, who stays in character during the filming of his movies. “Since we got married 16 years ago, my wife [Rebecca Miller] has lived with some very strange men. But luckily, she’s the versatile one in the family and she’s been the perfect companion to all of them.” {Source: IMDb}

I, for one, will miss seeing Day-Lewis on the big screen. He has portrayed such outstanding, and different, characters, all with his own unique flair and style.
