I’m starting out this year’s Dinner Party series by throwing a birthday dinner party for me and a few of my fellow Capricorns. As Capricorns, we know how to get the party started so don’t let our initial reserved demeanor fool you. This dinner party celebrates those of us born between December 21st and January 19th, and includes several honored birthday guests.
My guests include British actor Eddie Redmayne (Jan. 6th), English American actress Sienna Miller (Dec. 28th), musician John Legend (Dec. 28th), American model Christy Turlington Burns (Jan. 2nd), Australian actor Liam Hemsworth (Jan. 13th), former First Lady Michelle Obama (Jan. 17th), English actor Kit Harington (Dec. 26th), SNL funny woman Kate McKinnon (Jan 6th), Mexican actor Diego Luna (Dec. 29th), and American actress and comedian Betty White (Jan. 17th).

I share a birthday with both Eddie Redmayne and Kate McKinnon, but all of these Capricorns are wonderfully talented and beautifully inspiring people.
Eddie has starred in a several great movies, including Les Miserables (my favorite) and My Week with Marilyn. I love how he fully submerges himself in his characters, portraying Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything and Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl.
Sienna may have been raised in London, but she was born in New York City. She was fabulous as Edie Sedgwick in Factory Girl. She started her career appearing in British movies, but has starred in some great American movies.
John captured our hearts with his Grammy Award-winning “Ordinary People”, and has gone on to win an Oscar for Best Original Song for writing the song “Glory” from the movie Selma.
Christy is not only a model, but she is a charity-founder. She is also known for helping mothers around the world, having founded Every Mother Counts, “a non-profit organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every woman, everywhere.”
Liam may be engaged to Miley Cyrus, but he is holding his own as an actor, with roles in The Hunger Games, The Expendables 2, Empire State, and Independence Day: Resurgence. He may, at times, be overshadowed by his older brother (some guy named Chris), but he is equally as talented (and good-looking).
Michelle was a wonderful First Lady. Politics aside, she had a style and grace that was relatable to everyone, not only here in America, but around the world. I loved the fact that she liked getting A’s in school. “I liked being smart.”
Kit won’t reveal any spoilers for Game of Thrones or if Jon Snow will die or if he will live until the series finale, which will either be later this year or next year. I have enjoyed seeing him in other roles, like Milo in Pompeii or Will Holloway in MI-5. (I also really love his accent and his voice in general, not to mention that he is very handsome!)
Kate has played several funny characters on Saturday Night Live, from Justin Beiber and Ellen DeGeneres to German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Hilary Clinton. It’s hard to believe that she’s only been on SNL since 2012, but she has left a lasting (and funny) impression on the world.
Diego is a Mexican actor, who danced his way into my heart as Javier Suarez in Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. He starred as Cassian Andor in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. He may not be as well known as some of the other guests, but he is still making an impact in the entertainment industry as a producer, director and writer.
Betty has been acting since 1939, before all of these other guests were even born. She is going to be 96-years-young this month and has acted with hundreds of movie legends, but temporarily shelved her career to join the American Woman’s Voluntary Service during WWII. She is not only the oldest Saturday Night Live host, but she was also awarded the title of Longest TV Career for an Entertainer (female) by Guinness Book of World Records.
To feed this large crowd, I would have the party catered, offering a wide variety of foods, including vegetarian and vegan options. We’d have salad, appetizers, chicken, beef, seafood, and yummy side dishes. Not only would I serve mini-bundt cakes from Nothing Bundt Cakes (located over in Knoxville), I’d also serve a special Capricorn-inspired drink – the orange vodka martini.
The conversations would flow, the laughs would be loud and almost continuous, and the evening would end with a birthday fireworks celebration! Heck, we may even re-created Betty’s fireside dance from The Proposal. I would bring out my keyboard and see if John would play “Happy Birthday” while we all sang to each other. Finally, I would send my guests home with a small personalized birthday present.
So HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my special dinner party guests, and happy birthday to all of you Capricorns!
Yours Truly,
Vanessa
P.S. I planned to publish this “dinner party” post on last Saturday, but I didn’t get around to it. So “happy {belated} birthday” to my dinner guests and to all my Capricorn friends!
