You have to admit, Henry Cavill looks good in a suit — whether that suit is for a movie premiere, for the Red Carpet, or for his role as Clark Kent/Superman. His rugged good looks and well-maintained physique is why I named this English actor this month’s “Man of Style”.
When Henry took on the role of the “Man of Steel” in 2013, he realized that it was “important to do the role justice. There are a lot of people relying on me to do this well. I gladly accept that responsibility, and it’s a great one to have because it’s a wonderful opportunity. I don’t let the pressures get to me because that’s going to hinder my performance and, therefore, let people down. So I choose to ignore the pressure side of it and focus on doing justice to Superman.”
He did not watch any previous Superman films or television series while making Man of Steel (2013), using the comics solely as a reference for his portrayal of Superman.
Henry is fascinated with superheroes in the movies. “It’s the same thing we’ve always needed, which is that sense of hope. There’s always something wrong in the world. It just shifts depending on the generation. And it’s always nice to have that fantasy where there’s someone who’s going to fix everything. It’s beating the odds, and that’s been the same with mythological characters since the dawn of time, since we could think up gods.”
As a proper English gentleman, he traditionally wears a signet “gentleman’s” ring featuring his family coat of arms on the small finger of his left hand. He also adopted an American Akita dog and named him Kal, although some fans have nicknamed the sweet dog, Super Puppy.
One thing that Henry and I agree on is that we are both huge fans of the Starz original series, Outlander, and it’s star, Sam Heughan. “Outlander I thought was absolutely spectacular. It’s so good I watched it from beginning to end in almost one night. I couldn’t stop. Jamie is a Scottish Superman, for sure!”
Not only does this 34-year-old take his role as the Man of Steel seriously, but he also takes is workout seriously {come on, just look at those biceps!}. “I’m incredible strong-willed and if I decide I’m going to do something then I won’t stop until it’s done. I’m driven. There are points during training where you could slow down and not beat your previous numbers or keep going and definitely puke. There’s a switch in your head where you say ‘sod it’… And you do it. I never collapse after a workout. You don’t lie there like you are defeated, you stay standing.”
Before his became Superman, he portrayed Charles Brandon in The Tudors and Theseus in Immortals. And if you haven’t seen The Man from U.N.C.L.E., it’s worth it just to see him looking good in a suit as a CIA Agent Napoleon Solo.
I hope that this brief profile of Henry Cavill has made you a fan of this British import. He has definitely been placed on my “celebrity crush” list. Yours Truly,
Vanessa
