I have worn glasses for several years, and I only started wearing makeup within the past seven years or so. I was a bit of a tomboy when I was younger, and only played with makeup from time to time. But the dilemma I face now is how to wear eye makeup that doesn’t make me look like I’m hiding two black eyes behind my glasses.
When my nieces were younger, I would watch them as they applied their eye makeup, even though they are naturally beautiful and don’t need makeup. They carefully lined their eyes with kohl black eyeliner and brushed on a tapestry of eye shadow with precision, although sometimes they got a little heavy-handed with their eye makeup.
Even now, I spend hours watching those makeup transformation videos on Instagram. How they go from a makeup-free face to a glam look is amazing, especially with all the steps they take to achieve their look.
My makeup routine is fairly simple… moisturizer, tinted moisturizer, cream blush, and eyebrow liner. That’s it. No eye shadow, no eye liner, no mascara. I usually only wear lip gloss on special occasions, but I do use Carmex quite often.
Why no eye makeup? Two reasons: (1) I don’t know how to apply it correctly or what colors would compliment my complexion or look good with my glasses; and (2) I have seasonal allergies, so when I rub my eyes, I don’t want to look like a raccoon.
So here are several helpful makeup tips, specifically aimed at women like me… “girls who wear glasses”!
