“I secondhand shop because I love it when someone else pays full price first.”
I love going to a consignment store and ruffling through rack after rack of clothes. I have seen items from Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren to James Perse and Tory Burch, all at a fraction of their original {full} price. Today, October 2nd, is the first-ever National Consignment Day! Consigning is a great way to make smart, sustainable fashion choices and earn some extra money, especially right now before the holiday!

I have been a frequent visitor to consignment stores and thrift stores since my high school days, when I would travel from my home in Biloxi to every consignment and thrift store from Gulfport to Ocean Springs. I have continued to frequent these second-hand stores for over 25 years now, finding some treasured gems like a Chanel scarf {at my local Goodwill} and Hermes scarf {at a local KARM store}, a small vintage Louis Vuitton bag {at a Knoxville consignment store; it was my first LV bag}, a vintage Coach purse {at a Goodwill somewhere in Virginia}, and several stylish sweaters and dresses {from both consignment and thrift stores in Chicago, Key West, and Chattanooga}.
The folks over at The RealReal really know the business of consigning. With 2.5 billion pounds of textiles saved from landfills through resale, consignment is not only financially smart, it’s also sustainable. I recently consigned two pairs of shoes with them. I haven’t gotten paid for the resale of these shoes, but I just got the email that my shoes were processed and ready to put up on their website to be sold. Now I am waiting until I get my consignee payment. It was such an easy process. They sent me a pre-paid box to ship my items back, with information on the whole consignment process. I was really impressed with them.

So what’s the difference between consignment stores and thrift stores?
