You may not recognize Travis Fimmel, but this Australian actor and former Calvin Klein underwear model plays Ragnar Lothbrok in “Vikings”, a History Channel series about one of the best-known legendary Norse heroes, who eventually becomes a Scandinavian king.
Travis Fimmel may have model good looks and piercing blue eyes, but he brought to light the character of Ragnar. Unfortunately, his character met his demise at the end of season four. But don’t worry, he won’t be far from our TV and movie screens. He was recently cast as Wyatt Earp in a new historical anthology, and is set to star in two movies due out later this year.
This 37-year-old Australian never hit my radar until my friend and co-worker, Cindy F., and I were talking about last month’s “Man of Style”, Outlander’s Sam Heughan. I told her that Sam was Scottish and that I was a sucker for a man with an accent. She then asked me if I had ever watched “Vikings” and I said that I had not, and she said that I had to look up Travis Fimmel.
He may portray a Norse hero and a Scandinavian king who goes about slaughtering and pillaging villages and conquering new lands, but he has a nice smile.
It’s no wonder he made it as a model. Apparently he walked into LA Models in 2002, broke and barefoot, and was signed on the spot. He became the first male model in the world to secure a six-figure deal to model exclusively with Calvin Klein. He may have been the most recognized Calvin Klein male underwear model, but he comes from humble beginnings. His father was a cattle farmer and his mother was a nurse.
He was named one of the world’s sexiest bachelors by People magazine in 2002 and at the time was regarded as “the most in-demand male model in the world”. It has even been suggested by some journalists that Travis Fimmel was the inspiration for Sex and the City heartthrob ‘Jerry’ Smith Jerrod. (Source: Wikipedia)
Australia has introduced us to several heartthrobs, including Travis Fimmel, Chris and Liam Hemsworth, Hugh Jackman, the late Heath Ledger, Simon Baker, Sam Worthington, Guy Pearce, and Jai Courtney, just to name a few. And for that, I say, “Thank you, Australia!”
