A #DayintheLife as an RMA and Blogger in Knoxville, Tenn.

Earlier this year, I became a Mogul Influencer/Global Ambassador for Mogul, “an award-winning technology platform that enables women worldwide to share ideas, solicit advice, and access content based on their personal interests.” I was invited to be a part of this platform about four months ago, through my connection with the BlogHer 16 Conference.

Earlier this month, I was invited by Bethany Heinrich, VP of Content & Community for Mogul, to participate in an exciting campaign and movement at Mogul called #DayintheLife.

So here’s my profile for the #DayintheLife campaign.

Name: Vanessa Wood

Age: 43

Home city/ country: Knoxville, Tenn., USA (but I also call Texas home)

Current Occupation: (student, current job, etc.): Registered Medical Assistant by day; blogger by night for Green Acres Meets Paris.

Time I wake up: 6:20 AM

First thing I do in the morning: give my two dogs – Daisy and Doc – some loving and then let them outside; then I shower.

My typical breakfast: bacon and eggs, or 4-ct chicken mini combo at Chick-fil-A, or sausage breakfast burrito combo at Sonic… always a Diet Coke.

Here’s what my morning commute is like: I leave my house between 7-7:15 AM and drive about 30 minutes to Knoxville; it’s about 18 miles to the office, but I have to go through a school zone and somewhat heavy traffic heading towards Knoxville.

I spend most of my day doing: I work as a Registered Medical Assistant and have clinic four out of five days, with two doctors and one Physician Assistant. Clinic with Dr. G starts at 8:30 AM thru noon, Monday thru Thursday; then I have afternoon clinic with Dr. K on Monday and Thursdays; and then I have afternoon clinic with CJ, a PA, and we do a lot of office procedures. With CJ, think Dr. Pimple Popper but cooler, meaning that he does a lot of office procedures, which I assist. I also do office procedures with Dr. G and Dr. K, but CJ does the most. His Wednesday clinic is what I like to call the “lumps and bumps” clinic.

After work or school, I like to: walk along Melton Lake. It shaded and the breeze off the water is just right. Then three days a week, I meet my husband at the gym where we workout together.

A fun night for me includes: going out to dinner with my husband and either going to the movies or renting a movie from Redbox.

Time I go to sleep: all depends… I try to get in bed by 10:00 PM, but sometimes I don’t actually fall asleep until after 11:00 PM. On weekends, I may not get into bed or fall asleep until after midnight.

Last thing I do at night: after I wash my face, I cuddle with Daisy… she’s my little cuddle bug.

My favorite thing to do for fun: I like to hang out with my husband, as well as write, read magazines or books, watch movies or catch up on TV shows.

My biggest fear right now: is death, being fired, or not having people like my blog.

My biggest hope right now: is that my blog will grow. I’m sure some people may find that shallow, but I just want people to like my blog and like what I write.

Someday I’d like to: write full-time for a magazine or media outlet, and travel the world.

The biggest challenge I have overcome so far: is feeling like I am a fraud at my job as a RMA, a job I’ve been doing for over 12 years now.

The biggest challenge I hope to overcome: is feeling like I’m a fraud at blogging. I feel like sometimes I don’t belong in the blogging community or that I will never be taken seriously as a blogger.

Being a woman is wonderful because: we are actually the stronger sex. I remember being in college (I attended a Christian college) and being told that our church was kept alive by the prayers of the women, that the men had basically stopped going to church, but that the women were steadfast in their faith.

Being a woman is a challenge because: we are not always seen as the stronger sex; we are sometimes seen as “weak” because we show emotions. Just think about this, about difficult is has been for the female presidential candidate to make it to where she is today.

What’s one thing people don’t understand about your culture that you’d like to clarify to the international community? I’d like to clarify that not all of us are prejudice against blacks, Muslims, hispanics, or any other culture that is different than ours. Some of us truly just want “world peace” and for everyone to just get along, I mean, why can’t we just all get along?

What’s your favorite meal or recipe that is a specialty of your culture? I love a good roast with veggies like carrots and potatoes, but I also love homemade biscuits and gravy.

If you could ask the Mogul community anything, what would it be? What advice would you give a woman, who just so happens to be in her mid 40s, about breaking into the fashion industry, who is “too old” to intern but still has the enthusiasm and energy of a 20-something?

I am a Mogul because: I put my heart and soul into my passion for writing for my blog, Green Acres Meets Paris, and for the topics on which I write.

So what makes you a Mogul?

Yours Truly,
Vanessa
