“Green Acres is the place for me.
Farm livin’ is the life for me.
Land spreadin’ out so far and wide.
Keep Manhattan, just give me that countryside.
New York is where I’d rather stay.
I get allergic smelling hay.
I just adore a penthouse view.
Dah-ling I love you but give me Park Avenue.
…The chores.
…The stores.
…Fresh air.
…Times Square.
You are my wife.
Good bye, city life.
Green Acres we are there.”
Green Acres was a popular show back in the late 1960s-early 1970s. I was born in 1973, but I remember watching this show as re-runs. Heck, I would probably still watch it today if it were still on TV.
A few weeks ago, I wrote a post about possibly changing the name of my blog, which is currently named “My Life This Year.” {Check it out – “Contemplating a Name Change”.}
I’ve been contemplating a name change for a couple of months now, debating with myself over the uniqueness of “A City Girl in the Country.” Eventually, my wise momma chimed in and suggested a more fitting name for my blog. I liked it a lot more than the generic name I came up with. So I posted my quandary to my BlogHer community and put both names out there. It was an overwhelming vote for my momma’s suggestion!
GREEN ACRES MEETS PARIS
To me, “Green Acres” represents country life and “Paris” represents city life. I’m a city girl living out in East Tennessee with my country boy husband, Michael. He is the Oliver Wendell Douglas to my Lisa Douglas, except that he is not an attorney and I am not a glamorous Hungarian wife. I’m just a simple city girl with the heart of a country girl.
The Green Acres lyrics somewhat match my life. My husband doesn’t care for the city, but I fell in love with New York City the second I stepped off the plane when I visited the Big Apple a couple of years ago. My husband can spend all day outside, but all that “nature” really sets my allergies off. But I love my husband and no matter if we are in the city or in the country, my life is where he is at and right now, that’s out in the county.
So last night, I officially changed the name of my blog!
Welcome to “Green Acres Meets Paris”!
Yours Truly,
Vanessa
