The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, is tonight. If you’re like me, you watch the pre-show leading up the the Oscars, where all the actors and actresses stroll down the Red Carpet, stopping to talk with interviewers like Ryan Seacrest, Giuliana Rancic, Robin Roberts, and Lara Spencer about not only the films they are nominated for, but who they are wearing!

If you’re not going to someone’s house or apartment to watch the show, why not throw an impromptu party?
You’ll need to start early… like now!

1. Call or text your friends and see who all can make to your place for the festivities. Invite them over for the Red Carpet show before the Oscars. The fashion is a major part of the show, if you ask me! And make it a fancy affair. If the celebrities and Hollywood types have to dress up for the Oscars, then so should you!
2. Now let’s say you invited a dozen of your friends over, then you could have them each bring a small treat, whether it’s store-bought or “made with love,” or a bottle of vino or a couple of bottles of soda.
3. Run to the nearest store, or if you’ve got a Party City close by, purchase a combo of gold and black plates, cups, napkins, silverware, and accessories (balloons, party favors, etc.).
4. Find somewhere that you can print out some Oscars ballots, like Office Max or Staples. Then grab some colored pens for marking the Oscars ballots. You can find the link to print out the ballots HERE.
5. Stop by your local grocery story and get one of each type of platter: fruit, veggie, and meat. Get some chips and dips, Chicago mix popcorn (cheddar and caramel), small candies (Hershey kisses, gummie bears, mints, gum, etc.). And don’t forget to get a couple of bags of ice. Grab a $25 gift card to a restaurant or to Amazon. The gift card will come in play at the end of the evening.
6. Decorate your place and set out the non-perishable foods and drinks. Put out the Oscars ballots for you and your friends. Hang a cool backdrop and have some handy photo props available so you and your friends can pose for some party photos and selfies.
7. Now go get ready for your party!
8. Once your friends start to arrive, hand them an Oscars ballot and have them check off who they think will win in each category. After all is said and done, and all the awards are handed out, tally up the ballots and whoever matched the most Oscars winners wins the $25 gift card.
