I was always a bit of a nerd in school. I was never part of the “cool” crowd and I didn’t get invited to parties. I think the first party I got invited to that I actually attended was on prom night my Senior year in high school.
Even in college, you could easily identify the “cool” kids and point out each clique. Me? I was on the newspaper staff for one year, and I was President of Sigma Tau Delta, the National English Honor Society. My senior year in college, I all but vanished from college life. I only had four classes left both semesters and the first semester I interned at the ABC affiliate in Chattanooga and then was hired on at Christmas and began working there as the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. video editor in January 1998. I made friends with some of the news personalities and reporters. I actually felt “cool”.
I am still friends with some of my high school and college classmates, but everyone has a “wish list” of friends they would love to hang around with. I mean, who of us didn’t want to be sitting in Central Perk with Monica, Chandler, Rachel, Ross, Phoebe and Joey?
Here is my “wish list” of people with whom I would love to be meet and possibly befriend, and here are my reasons why:
1) Jennifer Aniston – I mean, who wouldn’t want to be friends with “Rachel”, the ultimate Cali girl. I would love to do yoga with her, and I would love to just hang out with her in Cabo.
2) Cameron Diaz – She can be girly and she can be raunchy. I love everything about her! Her comedic timing is priceless, and her style is cool. I would also love to workout with her… She is physically fit!
3) Victoria Beckham – I love her style and I love that she doesn’t apologize for not smiling in every photo she takes. She is truly a fashion icon!
4) Jennifer Garner – She can be tough and feminine. She kicked major butt in Alias, and yet, she is tender and funny in some of her movies.
5) Ellen DeGeneres – Need I explain why? Let’s just say, that woman can dance,
6) Angelina Jolie – I love that she has turned from a wild child to a humanitarian. She truly has embraced her maternal instincts without losing her sexy side.
7) Nikki Reed – She rescues dogs and she’s an under-appreciated talent as an actress, singer, write. She has a natural beauty that is wonderfully refreshing.
8) Khloe Kardashian – She’s fabulous and she embraces her body, her life, and her love. After hearing the latest gossip about her marriage, my hope and prayer is that they work it out and not give up on their love.
9) Guiliana Rancic – I have watched Guiliana & Bill and feel like I know her already. She’s awesome! And all of those haters who comment on her Instagram photos about “eat something” or “you need to gain some weight”… All I have to say is this – if you don’t have anything nice (or encouraging) to say, then keep your trap shut and don’t say anything at all.
10) Kelly Ripa – She has a warm personality and a kick-arse workout routine! She always seems upbeat and positive!
11) Lara Spencer – I would love to be her personal assistant and help her turn trash into treasure. I love her eye for flea market finds!
12) George Clooney – I would love to talk with him about his screenwriting process, possibly as he shows me around Italian villa! He is definitely a distinguished gentleman, who apparently doesn’t kiss & tell.
13) Ewan McGregor – I could sit and listen to him talk for hours! Not to mention that he’s easy on the eyes! He is another under-appreciated talent.
14) Ron Howard – I would love to talk with him about everything from writing to directing to acting.
15) Sean Hayes – He is a comic genius! He is more than “just Jack”, but his comedic timing is fan-freaking-tabulous!
16) Tom Cruise – I think he’s a great actor. Think what you may about his “religion”, but at least he is steadfast in his beliefs, which I admire.
17) Dewayne “The Rock” Johnson – He is just incredibly sexy and his mini-videos on Instagram are hot! He’s talented, funny… and did I mention sexy?
18) Ryan Seacrest – I would love to intern for this man, just based on the way he burst onto the scene and now has his hand in everything!
19) Adam Sandler – I really admire him. He has had such a long career, and in every movie he makes, he hires his friends. His loyalty to his family and friends is very admirable!
20) Robert Redford – The work that he has done to support independent filmmakers, especially with the Sundance Film Festival and the Sundance Institute, is truly amazing!
I’m sure I can think of more, but this brief list just touches on people I’d love to just spend some time with, picking their brains, and learning from them.
I’m sure I’m not the only normal person, or “Average Jane”, out there who would love to be friends with a celebrity or two… so who is on your celebrity friend wish list and why? I’d love to hear from you!
