Do You Know Your Type?

Do you know your type?

No, I’m not talking your blood type, or what type of mate you’re looking for. I’m talking about your personality type.

I recently read an article (I can’t remember where) that mentioned taking an “Enneagram” test. According to the Enneagram Institute website, the Enneagram is defined as “a geometric figure that delineates the nine basic personality types of human nature and their complex interrelationships.”

The Enneagram of Personality (according to Wikipedia) is “a model of human personality which is principally used as a typology of nine interconnected personality types.”

Enneagram comes from the Greek words “ennea” (meaning nine) and “gramma” (something written or drawn). Oscar Ichazo is recognized as the principlace source of the contemporary test. Claudio Naranjo, who learned about the Enneagram from Ichazo at a course in Arica, Chile, then developed and taught his own understanding of the Enneagram in the United States. G.I. Gurdjieff is credited with making the Enneagram figure.

I recently took the two-question test on the website (which you can do one of two tests for free on this website), and according to the results, it said my “type” is one of three types: 5,7 and 9.

Type Five: The Investigator – The Intense, Cerebral Type: Perceptive, Innovative, Secretive, and Isolated.

Type Seven: The Enthusiast – The Busy,Variety-Seeking Type: Spontaneous, Versatile, Distractible, and Scattered.

Type Nine: The Peacemaker – The Easygoing, Self-Effacing Type: Receptive, Reassuring, Agreeable, and Complacent.

If you read the brief description of each of these types, you will have a little bit of a better understanding of who I am.

Types 2, 3, and 4 have a lower probability of being my type, while types 1,6, and 8 have the lowest probability of being my type.

When I took the longer RHETI Enneagram Type test, it showed that I “tied” in the following types: 2,3,6, and 7. When I retook the test, I scored highest as a Type 3. Even this type suits me a little, maybe even a little better than any other type.

Type Three: The Achiever – The Success-Oriented, Efficient Type: Adaptive, Excelling, Driven, and Image-Conscious.

This last Enneagram diagram describes the types a little better and shows how they can co-exist. Pretty cool, right?

My goal is to do a bit more research into this Enneagram and maybe pin my “type” down to just one.

So what is your “type”? Take the test and then let me know! Or if you already know your type, I’d love to hear from you too!
