Most men (and some women) are excited that NFL and college football season has started, but me? I’m more excited about the return of some of my favorite TV shows and the premiere of one “hot” new show! And believe it or not, there is not one reality show on my list!
First, let me start off with the NEW show! A friend of mine — ok, so we’re not really friends in the “we hang out all the time” kind of way, but I met him a few years ago at a screenwriter’s conference in Nashville and we are “friends” on Facebook (whatever that’s worth) — anyway… His name is Derek Haas, and he and his writing partner, Michael Brandt, created this “hot” new series called Chicago Fire.
Chicago Fire premieres on NBC on October 10th at 10 p.m. (EST) and I can’t wait!
Here is this low-down on this new series from the NBC website:
“For the team at Chicago Firehouse 51, no occupation is more stressful or dangerous, yet so rewarding and exhilarating.
From renowned, Emmy Award-winning executive producer Dick Wolf (“Law & Order” brand) and creators Derek Haas and Michael Brandt, the writing team behind “3:10 to Yuma,” comes the high-octane drama “Chicago Fire,” – an edge-of-your-seat view into the lives of everyday heroes committed to one of America’s noblest professions. For the firefighters, rescue squad and paramedics of Chicago Firehouse 51, no occupation is more stressful or dangerous, yet so rewarding and exhilarating. These courageous men and women are among the elite who forge headfirst into danger when everyone else is running the other way and whose actions make the difference between life and death.
The pressure to perform on such a high level has a way of taking a personal toll, sometimes putting team members from the Truck and the specially trained Rescue Squad at odds with each other. Despite any differences, this is an extended family, and when it’s “go time,” everyone inside Firehouse 51 knows no other way than to lay it all on the line for each other. When a tragedy claims one of their own, there’s plenty of guilt and blame to go around. Lt. Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer, “House”), in charge of the Truck, tries to carry on, but butts heads with the brash Lt. Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney, “The Vampire Diaries”) of the Rescue Squad – and each blames the other for their fallen team member. Adding to the turmoil, Casey, unbeknownst to his colleagues, is in the midst of a separation from Hallie (Teri Reeves, “ThreeRivers”).
The firehouse also includes Battalion Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker, “Oz”), a fireman’s fireman who is confronted by important personal decisions, paramedics Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund, “The Good Wife”) and Leslie Shay (Lauren German, “Hawaii Five-O”), who share a close bond and team together to face some of the most harrowing situations imaginable, Peter Mills (Charlie Barnett, “Law & Order: SVU”), an academy graduate who is the latest generation in a family of firefighters, and Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg, “Sex and the City”), a seasoned veteran who loses his home to foreclosure and now must uproot his family to move in with his in-laws.
In addition to Wolf, Haas and Brandt, executive producers also include Matt Olmstead (“Breakout Kings”), Joe Chappelle (“The Wire”), Danielle Gelber and Peter Jankowski (“Law & Order” brand). Haas and Brandt wrote the pilot, which was directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff (“Homeland”).
“Chicago Fire” is produced by Universal Television and Wolf Films.”
I am super excited to see this new show, not only because I know Haas and Brandt, but because the show is filmed in my favorite city — Chicago (and probably it in a sound studio in California). The first few promos had me hooked and every commercial I see on TV has me glued to my seat with anticipation of its premiere! I can’t wait!
**UPDATE 9/7/2012 at 8:44 p.m. EST — Derek Haas has told me that Chicago Fire is filmed entirely in Chicago! So no sound stage in California for this hot new drama! I’ve have wandered the streets of Chicago — a 15 block radius of the Merchandise Mart — and probably passed by the fire station where they film some of the scenes! Thanks Derek, for this bit of Chicago Fire information!
(On a side note: Both Haas and Brandt are graduates of Baylor University.)
I used to be a “police beat” reporter for a small newspaper and my adrenaline gets to pumping every time I hear a siren.
One time, I was doing a story on how the firefighters trained new recruits by doing a controlled house fire and having the new firefighters put the fire out. I put on the entire fire suit (tank and all) and was escorted into a house for a group of firefighters. Then one firefighter crawled to the far corner of the room and lit up an accelerant. The fire rose up the corner of the room and one of the firefighters right behind me tapped my shoulder and pointed up. When I looked up, it looked as if the fire was waving across the ceiling. We stayed in there for just a few minutes, but it was amazing! If I ever find the pictures of me in that fire suit, I’ll post them!
Now, on to the rest of my season premieres list!
Most of the returning shows I’m looking forward to watching are on ABC, but it’s nothing personal against any other networks. There are a couple of premieres on my list that are broadcast on CBS and then one on FX.
Here are the season premieres I’ll be watching on ABC:
Castle premieres on Sept. 24th at 10 .m. EST.
Modern Family premiere’s on Sept. 26th at 9 p.m. EST. It is one of two half-hour comedies I’m looking forward to watching this fall.
Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal return back-to-back on Sept. 27th, starting at 9 p.m. EST.
And then Revenge returns on Sept. 30th at 9 p.m. EST.
But before these ABC shows premiere, the season premiere of Sons of Anarchy will air next week on Sept. 11 at 10 p.m. EST. I can’t wait to see what Jax and the members of SAMCRO will cook up this season!
The other half-hour comedy on my list airs on CBS and features the most loveable geeky quartet — Sheldon, Leonard, Howard, and Raj. Yep, you guessed it — Big Bang Theory, which premieres on Sept. 27th at 8 p.m. EST.
The last premiere that I’m looking forward to watching is The Mentalist, which airs on Sept. 30th at 10 p.m. I don’t know why I haven’t been watching this show from the first season, but I’ve been watching reruns on TNT and I’m totally hooked!
So what new series premieres are you most looking forward to watching? What season premieres can you not wait to see? I’d love to hear from you!
Have a great day!

Love the Mentalist…, such a charming fellow that one 🙂 But I didn`t know there was a movie coming up, now I`ll make sure to see it, and even bring my hubby with me 😉 – so thanks a lot!
There is going to be a Mentalist movie?! How did I miss this bit of wonderful news? I, too, will definitely watch the wonderful Simon Baker as the charming, yet quirky, Patrick Jane if and when The Mentalist movie comes out, but I doubt my husband would go with me! Thanks for the “likes” on this post and several of my other posts! Have a great day!
Must laugh :)…, ignored that it was just a new season start of the show… :), must have wanted the movie badly 🙂 :), sorry to disappoint you – lol !
well, The Mentalist movie would have been good… maybe Patrick will finally catch Red John!
Never…. :)! lol
My goodness! There are so many shows coming out this fall that my head is spinning from trying to figure out how I’m going to keep up with them all. It’s tough enough for me to stay on top of my hectic work schedule at Dish and maintain a household at the same time! At least I know that my Hopper DVR auto-records all the major networks during primetime hours through the PrimeTime Anytime feature, so I can avoid making compromises on what to watch. It’s just a matter of when I’ll find the time to check them all out! One show I know I’ll make room in my schedule for is Modern Family. That series is the funniest thing I’ve seen in years!
