I finally went back to the gym yesterday after a few weeks away. It’s not that I haven’t been to the gym, but that I haven’t worked out with weights in about two months. So today, I’m super sore. So sore, in fact, that my quads, calfs, and triceps are screaming! Don’t get me wrong — I don’t regret going back and pushing myself so hard. My only regret is that I didn’t go back sooner!
Today I was was planning to do about 30 minutes of cardio using the rowing machine, but needless to say, I didn’t make it to the gym (which I’ll regret tomorrow). The only “exercise” I did today was take my dog, Daisy, for a walk down the road and back a couple of times.
So on Friday (tomorrow), my plan is to do 30-45 minutes of cardio and a mini-workout (without weights).
On days that I do just cardio, I do a mini-workout afterwards. I use this quick workout guide (below) for when I (a) don’t workout with weights or (b) don’t make it to the gym.
I normally workout 3-4 days a week. Since I’ve been out of work, I’ve taken to working out in the morning. But I’ll start back to my evening workouts next week.
Here’s what my normal workout schedule looks like:
Mondays
5:00 p.m. – rowing machine / elliptical machine / stationary bike (I like to alternate my days on machines to keep things fresh)
5:45 p.m. – one set of the 1000 workout or some other type of quick workout (no weights involved on this day)
Tuesdays / Thursdays:
5:00 p.m. – rowing machine / stationary bike / elliptical machine / jump rope
5:30 p.m. – RUSH Core (Tuesday only)
6:00 p.m. – RUSH Power (muscle-targeting exercises set to music – 9 songs)
7:00 p.m. – ZUMBA
Saturdays (if I can manage it):
9:00 a.m. – ZUMBA
10:00 a.m. – RUSH Power
or
I just do cardio and a mini-workout.
I have used several fitness apps, but the one I’m currently working with is a FREE fitness app called Slimkicker.
Sign-up is free and I have already started logging my nutrition, exercises, and fitness goals/challenges! You can also join groups and communicate with others on the forums.
I’ll keep you up to date with my fitness goals at least once a month and I’ll write some more about Slimkicker as I continue to learn more about it!
What are your fitness goals? What is your favorite exercise program (i.e., Insanity, P90X, Barre, etc)? What songs do you play during your workout to keep you motivated? I’d love to hear from you!
Have a great day!
