“Yea! Magazines!”
That was my reaction when I went to the mailbox and was presented with not one, not two, but four magazines! And considering the fact that I’m getting ready to take a road-trip, I find the timing of these magazines in my mailbox fortuitous!
Even though I’ll be able to download these magazines on my iPad, I still get excited about getting the physical magazine. I love the glossy covers, the perfume samples and the smell of the ink on the paper! I’m weird, I know, but I’ll always subscribe/purchase and read magazines the old fashioned way!
The magazines I received in the mail were: Glamour with Victoria Beckham on the cover; Redbook with Jordin Sparks on the cover sharing her no-diet plan; People StyleWatch with a blonde Emma Stone on the cover; and Town & Country with Aerin Lauder (Estee Lauder’s granddaughter) on the cover. I’ll probably get my InStyle and Marie Claire magazines while I’m gone.
Yes, I subscribe to several magazines but several of these magazines were “paid for” through the “My Coke Rewards” program. Also, our cousin’s children had magazine fundraisers at school last year, so both my husband and I subscribed to a couple of magazines to support their school. The monies raised through these fundraisers were going towards new computers for their schools. And I’m all for education!
As Whitney Houston once sang:
“I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children’s laughter remind us how we used to be.”
Anyway… As I peruse my magazines, I have already decided which cover stories I’m anxious to read.
In Glamour, I am anxious to read the interview with Victoria Beckham. Several weeks ago, I posted a blog about how I thought VB was a true fashion icon. Did anyone see her outfit in the Closing Ceremony of the Olympics? She looked so “posh”! I also can’t wait to read “The Supermodel Workout”, “The Extra Energy Diet”, and “How to Get Our Jobs”.
In Redbook, I am looking forward to reading how Jordin Sparks lost 50 pounds through her “no-diet plan.” Another cover story that peaks my interest is “The Fifty Shades of Grey idea every woman should try.” Considering the fact that I haven’t read any of the Fifty Shades books, I’d like to see what “idea every woman should try.” Maybe, just maybe, some of us have already tried this idea, but I can’t say for sure because I haven’t read the article yet. I’ll let you know, though!
People StyleWatch is full of fabulous fashion and accessories, as well as hair and beauty trends. I have naturally curly hair so a lot of the hairstyles will not work on me, especially since I can’t (and won’t) straighten my curls. After years of wishing I had straight hair and trying everything under the sun to straighten my hair (chemical straighteners, Dark & Lovely hair straightening cream, and flat-irons), I’m finally at a place in my life where I love my curly locks! I love that this magazine features inexpensive, as well as higher-end, fashion (clothes, shoes, handbags, and accessories).
Town & Country is my guilty pleasure. I love reading this magazine from cover-to-cover because it has such great interviews as well as some beautiful photography. I can’t wait to read the interview with Aerin Lauder and the aticle about “Paul Newman’s secret philanthropy recipe.” I also love reading the wedding announcements. They are written so lovely, and they remind me of that movie 27 Dresses with Katherine Heigl and James Marsden and how Katherine’s character, Jane, cuts out the wedding announcements that she loves. If you don’t know this movie reference, then go rent the movie! It’s a cute rom-com!
Well, my suitcase ain’t gonna pack itself… so I’ll post my magazine “reviews” as the week progresses! And I hope you enjoy them once they are posted!
Until then, have a great day!

I’m the same way with printed materials. Reading a magazine on a tablet is just not the same as having the physical book in your hand. Back before NYT surreptitiously raised my monthly fee I used to have the Sunday Times delivered. It was the best! To sit back with a pot of coffee and actual print and pictures scattered all over my living room floor while I went from section to section.
Even though I like my gadgets, I will always love hard copy magazines, newspapers, and books. Thanks for liking my post… And thanks for visiting my blog again!
