DIY: Do It Yourself.
I always say I’m going to do more DIY craft projects but I never get around to actually doing any.
Well technically that’s not true. This past Christmas I made five Christmas wreaths and gave them to different family members and to a couple of friends. That’s a project that I didn’t seem to have a problem starting or finishing!
However, the particular project I’m blogging about today is a t-shirt quilt. I started this project last fall but I put all the blanket squares in a bag after I read a how-to article on what is required to make a t-shirt blanket, namely a sewing machine. As some of you know, I don’t own a sewing machine so this project was unofficially scrapped.
Being without a full-time (or part-time) job, I have found myself with a lot of time on my hands. So after running a few errands today, I pulled out that bag full of t-shirt blanket squares and went to laying them out on my bed.
After laying them out in random order, I pulled out some cross-stitch thread and used a simple stitch to hold the squares together. It’s large enough to cover a full-size bed. I’m sure I went about making this blanket the wrong way by stitching the squares together without having used any backing or fusing material, but I have a method to my madness!
It wouldn’t be hard for me to pull the stitches out and do this project “the right way.” But with my backwards way of doing this project, I find myself pondering the following questions: Should go buy some backing of some sort or could buy a full-size blanket at a thrift store and use that as backing?
I’m open to suggestions!
Thanks!
