I went to my Grandma Howard’s house this past weekend and spent about two hours going through her fabric closet. It’s no “Mood Designer Fabric” store, but it’s more material than I can shake a stick at. And get this – I don’t even own a sewing machine!
Although I left quite a bit of material and fabric scraps behind, I hauled away a large black garbage bag full of potential skirts, vests, wrap dresses, tops, pillow case covers, etc. The possibilities are endless, if only I had a sewing machine. Grandma Howard even offered to give me her old sewing machine, as did my mom, but I told them that I currently don’t have the space to sew much of anything.
But when I finally build my “retirement home” in the mountains of Colorado, I’m definitely having a “design room” where I will have two or three dress forms, shelves of material, and carry-alls with dozens and dozens of spools of thread. And I’ll have an awesome sewing machine!
Here are a few close-up pics of some of the material I brought home with me. The green material and the pink giraffe material are both polyester (I think) and will make really cute skirts or wrap dresses (like Diane Von Furstenberg).
The silver material looks like insulation and I will need to line the material to make it wearable.
The Hawaiian print material will make a cute sundress or wrap skirt.
I’m excited to get to work on my “creations”, but first I’ll have to get a sewing machine!
