So far in my “Month of Letters” Challenge, I’ve written six letters to friends and family. I decided that even though mail doesn’t run on Sundays or holidays, that’s no reason to not write an extra letter or jot a quick note down in a funny card.
In each letter I’ve written so far, I’ve enclosed a small gift. In the first letter, I enclosed several pictures; in the second, a drawing; in the third, confetti; in the fourth, a quote from a magazine; and in the fifth, magazine clippings about the Twilight Saga.
My sixth letter, mailed out this morning, was to Jerry Howard. He’s my dad and today’s his birthday. Even though I spent Saturday with him and made him a special brownie dessert, I wanted to write him a letter to tell him how much I appreciate and love him. In this letter, I enclosed a special “father-daughter” poem.
My dad is semi-retired. I say “semi-retired” because he is technically retired from the Air Force, but he works at The Trousdale School in Cleveland, TN. He is the activities director or something like that.
[Sidebar: The Trousdale School is “committed to providing an environment that promotes maximum educational, physical, social and spiritual growth to high functioning adults with intellectual disabilities.”]
Anyway, today’s letter went to my dad.
Even if you, dear reader, haven’t taken up “The Month of Letters” Challenge, I encourage you to write a letter to a loved one today and mail it to them. Put a little something extra in the envelope, like a poem, a gift card, or even confetti (for that little extra surprise). Sending out just one letter or card will touch someone’s life, and maybe it will bring them a little ray of sunshine on an otherwise dreary day!
Happy writing, my friends!
