My “One For Someone Else”

The Art of Thank You Notes / www.vanessahwood.com

In one of my first blogs of the year, I decided to do one special thing for myself every month and one special thing for someone else every month. My “one for me” in January was joining the local Writer’s Guild. My “one for someone else” is close to my heart because it involved helping one of my former college roommates, Rachel.

The second week in January, Rachel and her husband, Scott, sent out an email to their friends detailing their plans to adopt a young 13-year-old Ukranian girl. I kept it in my inbox because it spoke to my heart. They met her through an organization called “Bridges of Faith,” a ministry of faith that brings Ukranian children to the U.S. in hopes to connect them with potential adoptive parents.

Rachel and Scott have three beautiful children (two daughters and a son), but they felt the Lord calling them to adopt this young girl. I can tell you this – Rachel and Scott have hearts as big as Texas.

So what did I do? I answered their email with a financial contribution. I wanted to help, even if it was in a small way. Celebrities adopt children all the time and they can afford the costs that come with adoption. Your average, every day American couple has to pinch pennies, and ask for help from their family and friends, and their neighbors and church families.

I know if Rachel and Scott can pull the finances together and this adoption goes through, that this lucky young girl will be raised in a wonderful, loving home!

Mother Teresa once said, “Do you want to do something beautiful for God? There is a person who needs you. This is your chance.”

Good luck and God bless you, Rachel and Scott!

Yours Truly,
Vanessa
